A siege strategy game with a constructive twist

Cataclismo blends real-time strategy with tower defence, tasking players with building a fortress brick by brick to withstand nightly assaults from creatures known as Horrors. Developed by Digital Sun, the team behind Moonlighter, and published by Hooded Horse, the game splits your time between architect by day and commander by night.

Construction uses physics-based, LEGO-inspired mechanics, with over 100 pieces to arrange into tactical layouts, traps and troop positions. Falling bricks can crush enemies and allies alike, so careful planning within the citadel walls matters as much as the fighting itself.

Outside the campaign, which runs to around 30 hours with voice acting and cutscenes as you join Lady Iris in a story of hope and rebuilding, the game offers Survival Mode for endless waves, Creative Mode for unrestricted building, and Skirmish Mode with hand-crafted maps.

What defending your fortress involves

Commanding your garrison means positioning bowmen, cannoneers and lobbers with an eye on height and terrain, since every metre of elevation affects their effectiveness. Siege equipment such as flaming arrows and claw traps become available as your citadel's prosperity grows, alongside new constructions and stronger troops.
