Corsair Cove drops you on a deserted island with the wreckage of your ship and a handful of surviving crew, and asks you to build a pirate stronghold not across flat land but up cliff-faces and hilltops. Developed by Limbic Entertainment and published by Hooded Horse, it blends simulation and strategy as you construct living quarters, taverns, piers, cannon foundries and defensive fortifications wherever there's a scrap of usable surface, horizontal or otherwise.

Bridges, ziplines and other contraptions become essential for moving goods between production buildings and distribution hubs scattered across the chasms and heights of your cove. As your settlement spreads to reach distant deposits of iron, copper, lumber and fibre, keeping travel efficient becomes its own challenge alongside managing your growing crew's demands and the looming threat of the Crown's pirate hunters.

Keeping a crew of pirates happy

Your population isn't uniform: drifters, fetchers, builders and skilled workers all have different needs, and lowly deckhands crewing small ships want little more than stew, ale and rum, whereas specialist sailors and elite corsairs expect spyglasses, medicine, sabers, tobacco, pistols and eye-patches. Production chains stretch across more than 50 types of goods, from hard tack and roast bird to fine clothes and prosthetics, and some resources, such as whale blubber, silver and wine, can only be obtained by sailing out to raid nearby islands.

Fans of intricate logistics and layered simulation will find plenty to occupy them here, and the game sits comfortably alongside other simulation games and strategy titles built around long-term base and supply chain management.
