A Japanese-inspired blend of action and strategy

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess sets its story on Mt. Kafuku, a mountain overrun by defilement. By day you purify the villages scattered across its slopes; by night you defend the Maiden, Yoshiro, from the Seethe as they pour out of the Torii Gates in the dark. This day and night cycle repeats until the mountain is cleansed and peace restored.

The game draws heavily on Japanese culture, with Kagura dance, traditional masks and an atmospheric score woven through its setting. Soh, the swordsman charged with protecting Yoshiro, fights with sword dance style attacks against the Seethe's varied and unpredictable assaults.

Strategy runs alongside the action

Soh doesn't face the Seethe alone. Villagers can be assigned roles and positioned around each map, and deciding where they fight, and which enemies Soh should focus on himself, shapes how each night unfolds. Successfully protecting Yoshiro until dawn lets her reach a Torii Gate and purify it with her Kagura dance, gradually restoring the mountain's villages.

Anyone drawn to CAPCOM's mix of tactical placement and hands-on swordplay will find plenty to get to grips with here, and it sits comfortably alongside other action games and strategy titles in the same vein.
