Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree Steam Digital Key

A dark fantasy soulslike unfolds

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree drops you into Faelduum, a world crumbling under the effects of Entropy, where humanity has retreated behind walls and monsters roam freely by night. Developed by Primal Game Studio and published by Knights Peak, it blends 2.5D side-scrolling levels with punishing, skill-driven combat, pitting you against foes ranging from the leering Caretaker to the Vampires of Braer Island.

The story, written by Brian Mitsoda of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines fame, follows your acquisition of the legendary Witch Lantern, which opens tears into the otherworldly plane of Entropy. Choices along the way shape a branching, morally difficult tale, while the painterly art direction and score by Christos Antoniou set a suitably atmospheric tone throughout.

Exploration and character growth

Metroidvania-style exploration runs through the game, with a grappling hook, ground strike and other skills opening new routes as you tear down crumbling walls and scale buildings. Character building is handled through multiple classes, from Vanguard to Spellbinder, each with its own skill tree and powers to customise.

• Recruit Artisans to your Caravan for upgrades
• Craft weapons, armour and trinkets
• Take on New Game Plus with additional difficulty levels once the story concludes
