Naval warfare arrives in Calradia

War Sails is the single-player expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, adding naval combat to the world of Calradia for the first time. Ship-to-ship battles let you board from multiple points, ram opposing vessels, or fight from a distance with arrows and ballista fire aimed at sails and crew.

The expansion introduces the Nords, a Viking-inspired faction settled among fjords and taigas in a new northern region. You can trade with them, recruit their warriors, join their cause or take up arms against them, alongside a reworked world map that includes coastal waters, open seas and a settled island.

Fleets, trade and sieges

Eighteen ship types, each modelled on historical vessels with distinct handling, can be fitted out with siege engines, cargo holds, sails and rams. Shipyards build and stock ships according to a town's culture, and vessels or figureheads can be captured in battle rather than bought.

Naval systems feed into the wider game: dynamic weather with storms and trade winds affects speed and attrition, new trade goods and ship production reshape coastal economies, and sieges now require a fleet to blockade supply lines by sea.

New skills, troops and a questline

Character options expand with Nord hairstyles, beards and tattoos, alongside three new nautical skills covering navigation, tactics and stewardship. Troop trees gain mariner units suited to sea combat, and new companions with maritime backgrounds can be recruited.

A dedicated questline introduces the seas of Calradia through scripted missions and cinematics, culminating in a fight against a pirate confederacy as your fleet grows.
