Karl Fairburne returns to occupied France

Sniper Elite 5 drops elite marksman Karl Fairburne into Brittany, 1944, as part of a covert US Rangers operation against the Atlantikwall fortifications. Working with the French Resistance, Karl uncovers Operation Kraken, a secret Nazi project that could change the course of the war.

The campaign missions use real-world locations captured in detail, with multiple infiltration and extraction routes and kill list targets giving each level more than one way through. Traversal tools such as ziplines, slopes and ledge shimmying let you reach vantage points or slip past a lookout, while gunplay factors in stock and barrel choices, gravity, wind and heart rate for every shot.

Solo, co-op or invaded

The campaign can be played alone or with a partner, sharing ammo and items, giving orders and healing each other. Invasion mode adds a further twist: another player can drop into your campaign as an Axis sniper for a tense game of cat and mouse, or you can call in a second sniper to help out.

Beyond the story there's a 16 player adversarial multiplayer mode with character and loadout customisation, XP, medals and ribbons, plus a Survival mode for up to four players facing waves of enemies. This makes it a solid pick among co-op games as well as straight action games.

Weapons, kills and customisation

Workbenches let you rework scopes, stocks, barrels and magazines across rifles, secondaries and pistols, and ammo can be swapped from armour-piercing down to non-lethal to suit the target. The signature X-ray kill cam returns, now showing bones deflecting bullets and grislier outcomes, with SMGs and pistols able to trigger their own slow-motion kill sequences.
