The Great War: Western Front Steam Digital Key

A dual layer WW1 strategy game

The Great War: Western Front puts you in command of the Western Front between 1914 and 1919, working as both Theatre Commander and Field Commander. On the strategic layer you direct deployments, research technologies such as poison gas and tanks, and allocate resources across the front. On the tactical layer you fight real-time battles, dig trenches and send infantry over the top.

Battlefields are persistent, so ground fought over earlier in the war still bears the scars, craters and fortifications from previous encounters, and shifting weather such as snow and rain affects artillery and movement as the conflict drags on. Developed by Petroglyph Games with Frontier Foundry, the game was built in partnership with the Imperial War Museums for a historically grounded portrayal of the period. It sits comfortably alongside other strategy games for players drawn to command level decision making.

Factions and modes

You can lead either the Allied Nations or the Central Powers, each with its own abilities and gameplay style, and the outcome of your campaign changes depending on the tactical and strategic decisions you make along the way.

• Campaign: follow the unfolding conflict from 1914 to 1919
• Historical Battles: relive specific moments from the war
• Skirmish: set up and fight your own battles
• Multiplayer: test your strategies against other commanders
