The Thaumaturge casts you as Wiktor Szulski, a man drawn back to Warsaw by family matters and by the mystical inheritance of thaumaturgy. The city sits under imperial Russian rule, home to Russian soldiers, Jewish merchants and Polish townspeople whose interests rarely align, and where high society parties and dark back alleys exist within the same few streets.

As a thaumaturge, Wiktor can tame ethereal beings called Salutors, using their powers to uncover secrets hidden in the human soul. The game blends investigation, morally ambiguous choices and character development, letting you shape Wiktor's path and live with what follows.

Combat is turn-based and distinctive, mixing human attacks and skills with psychic strikes delivered through Salutors. You can also influence and manipulate the temperaments of other characters, bending their will as part of your approach to the story.

Genre and setting

This is a story-rich RPG with strong adventure and horror undertones, built in Unreal Engine 5 to render early twentieth century Warsaw in detail. Fans of RPG games, adventure games and story-rich games will find familiar ground here, and the unsettling presence of the Salutors gives it a place among horror games too.
