Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a single player role-playing game set in the world of The Witcher, built by developers who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It follows Meve, a war-veteran queen of the Northern Realms of Lyria and Rivia, as she faces a Nilfgaardian invasion and sets out on a journey of destruction and revenge.

The game blends narrative-driven exploration with puzzles and card battle mechanics, taking players through Lyria, Rivia, Aedirn, Mahakam and Angren. Alongside the main story there are over 75 side quests, and players manage resources, recruit units and build an army in a customisable war camp, with story battles that twist the usual rules in unexpected ways.

Cards, choices and consequences

Over 250 single player cards represent the characters and entities encountered during exploration, many of which can be deployed as assets in battle. Choices made through the story carry weight: acting against an ally's convictions can see their card vanish from the deck entirely. Completing the campaign also unlocks premium animated card versions along with extra multiplayer avatars, borders and titles for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, which also gains 20 new cards from this release.

Dialogue is fully voice-overed and localised into eleven languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese, alongside the base tags used to classify this title in the action games and adventure games catalogues.
