Changing the email on your Steam account is important for security, especially if you’ve purchased an account and need to update it to your own email address.
How to change your email
- Open the Steam desktop client and log into your account.
- Click Steam → Settings in the top-left menu.
- Select Account from the left sidebar.
- Click “Change contact email address…”.
- Steam will send a verification code to your current email address. Enter the code.
- Enter your new email address and confirm it.
- A second verification code will be sent to your new email. Enter it to complete the change.
If you don’t have access to the current email
- If the account was purchased from Keydra and you were provided with the email credentials, log into the email account first to receive the verification code.
- If you cannot access the email at all, you’ll need to contact Steam Support and verify your account ownership.
Tips
- Always update the email to one you own and have full access to.
- After changing the email, enable Steam Guard for added security.
- The email change takes effect immediately.
- Use a strong, unique email that you don’t use on other gaming platforms.
