Nintendo calls their two-factor authentication “two-step verification.” Here’s how to enable it.
How to enable two-step verification
- Go to accounts.nintendo.com and sign in.
- Click “Sign-in and security settings” in the left sidebar.
- Scroll to “2-Step Verification” and click “Edit”.
- Click “Set up” (or “Turn on”).
- A verification code will be sent to your account email. Enter it.
- Install an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) and scan the QR code shown on screen.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app to verify.
- You’ll receive backup codes — save these in a safe place.
Tips
- If you lose your phone, you can use the backup codes to log in and disable 2FA.
- Nintendo only supports authenticator apps for 2FA, not SMS.
- Keep your backup codes somewhere secure and separate from your device.
