About Dear Villagers
Dear Villagers works with independent studios rather than large in-house teams, which gives its line-up a wide spread of styles. Modern Storyteller made the time-loop mystery The Forgotten City, Artefacts Studio made Naheulbeuk's Dungeon Master, and titles from Sedleo, La Moutarde, WildArts Studio and Studio Plane Toast sit alongside them.
The publisher leans towards handcrafted indie games with clear ideas: RPGs, casual builders, action platformers and story-driven adventure titles, with releases spanning 2021 to 2026.
Games in the catalogue
Role-playing and adventure form the core, with The Forgotten City, Astria Ascending, Born of Bread, Terra Memoria and Vampire: The Masquerade - Reckoning of New York. Fabledom and Naheulbeuk's Dungeon Master cover lighter strategy and management, while EverSiege: Untold Ages, DIVE or DIE: Children of Rain, Star Overdrive, Recompile, Deer & Boy, 1348 Ex Voto and Caravan SandWitch add action, atmosphere and exploration.
Most titles are PC releases that run through Steam, and some, including The Forgotten City, also appear for Xbox. Alongside base games there are add-ons and expansion content, which need the matching base game on the same account before they can be used. The bulk of the range is made up of Steam keys, with several titles also offered as accounts.
How buying works
A key is redeemed on the platform named in the listing, usually Steam, and adds the game to your own library. Full instructions are in the guide on activating a Steam key. Titles such as The Forgotten City, Astria Ascending, Fabledom, Born of Bread and Caravan SandWitch also come as game accounts, which arrive with the game already on them and are signed into instead of redeemed.
Games are sold per region, and a key has to match the region of the account it is activated on, so check the listing region against your own before buying. The article on region locking explains how the restrictions work.
Common questions
- Which platform do these games activate on?
- Most Dear Villagers titles activate on Steam for PC. A few, such as The Forgotten City, are also listed for Xbox, and each listing states the platform it belongs to.
- Will a key work in another country?
- Only if the key's region covers the region of the account you are redeeming it on. A key sold for one region may be refused elsewhere, so match the two before purchase.
- What is the difference between a key and an account?
- A key is a code you redeem to add the game to your own library. An account comes with the game already on it, so you sign in with the details supplied rather than redeeming anything.
- Do add-ons need the base game?
- Yes. DLC and expansion content only work if the matching base game is already owned on the same account and platform.
- When do I get the key or account details?
- The key or account details are delivered to your order once payment completes.
