Activating a Steam key takes just a couple of minutes. Follow the steps below to get into your game as fast as possible.
Before you start
Make sure you have the following ready before attempting activation:
- A Steam account (free to create at store.steampowered.com)
- The Steam desktop client installed on your PC
- Your product key, in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Method 1: Via the Steam Desktop Client (Recommended)
- Open the Steam client and log into your account.
- In the bottom-left corner, click “Add a Game”.
- Select “Activate a Product on Steam”.
- Click “Next”, then agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
- Enter your product key and click “Next”.
- Click “Finish”. The game will appear in your library, ready to download.
Method 2: Via the Steam Website
- Go to store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey and log in.
- Enter your product key and click “Redeem”. The game will be added to your library automatically.
Method 3: Via the Steam Mobile App
- Open the Steam app and tap the menu icon.
- Tap “Games” then “Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code”.
- Enter your product key and tap “Continue” to complete activation.
Tips
- Copy and paste your key to avoid typos.
- Check the region. Some keys are region-locked and may not work on all accounts.
- Only enter your key on the official Steam platform. Never use third-party sites.
- Each key can only be used once and cannot be reactivated on another account.
