About Unknown Worlds Entertainment
Unknown Worlds Entertainment is an independent developer and publisher best known for Subnautica, in which survival, exploration and a slow unfolding story take place beneath the surface of an ocean world. Subnautica: Below Zero carries the same mix of crafting, diving and discovery into a frozen region.
Before the Subnautica series, the team made Natural Selection 2, a competitive title that blends first person action with real time strategy command. Together these releases cover adventure, indie, action, strategy, survival and VR listings, and the Subnautica games sit comfortably alongside other adventure games for PC and console.
Games in the catalogue
Subnautica: Below Zero comes on Steam for PC as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and is sold as a key, as a gifted copy or as an account. Subnautica is listed for Xbox One as a key or an account, and also as a PlayStation 4 account.
Natural Selection 2 is a Steam title and is offered as a key or a Steam gift. Most listings across the range are keys, while a smaller number are game accounts, which arrive with the game already on it so you sign in rather than redeem a code.
How buying works
A key activates on the platform it was made for: Steam codes are redeemed in the Steam client or website, while Xbox codes are entered on an Xbox console or in the Microsoft Store. Help with each is in the guides on activating a Steam key and redeeming an Xbox code.
Games are sold per region, and a key has to match the region of the account it is redeemed on, so check the region of a listing against your own account before buying. Accounts differ in that the game is already attached to the credentials you receive, so no redemption step is involved.
Common questions
- Which platform do these games activate on?
- It depends on the listing. Subnautica: Below Zero is available on Steam for PC and on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Subnautica is listed for Xbox One and as a PlayStation 4 account, and Natural Selection 2 is a Steam title.
- Will a key work in another country?
- Only if the key's region matches the region of the account redeeming it. A key from one region will usually be rejected on an account registered elsewhere, so match the two before ordering.
- What is the difference between a key and an account?
- A key is a code you redeem on your own Steam, Xbox or PlayStation account. An account listing comes with the game already on it, and you sign in with the details provided instead of redeeming anything.
- When do I receive the key or account details?
- The key or account details are delivered to your order once payment has completed.
- Is a Steam gift the same as a Steam key?
- A Steam gift is added to your library through Steam's gifting system rather than by typing a product code. Both end with the game on your Steam account.
