Can I use a UK Tesco gift card in another country?

No. The balance belongs to the Tesco store and currency it was issued for. Buy the card for the country where it will be spent.

How do I receive the code?

The code is delivered to your order once payment completes, and you then enter it at the Tesco checkout.

What happens if my shop costs more than the card?

You pay the difference with another payment method at the checkout, as the gift card covers only the balance it holds.

Is there anything left over if I spend less than the value?

Any unspent amount stays as a remaining balance on the code, so you can put it towards a later order.

Do I need a Tesco account?

Yes, redeeming online means signing in to a Tesco account for the relevant country, or creating one first.

Tesco gift cards

A Tesco gift card holds a prepaid balance that goes towards a Tesco shop, from the weekly groceries to household goods, clothing and other ranges stocked by the supermarket.

Each code is tied to the Tesco store of a particular country, so it suits anyone who shops with Tesco in that market or wants to hand the balance to someone who does.

About Tesco gift cards

Tesco is one of the best known supermarket chains in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with stores and online grocery ordering as well as wider ranges beyond food. A Tesco gift card is a simple way to cover part or all of a shop without using a bank card, and it works well as a present when you do not know what someone needs.

Face values run from small top-ups to larger amounts, in pounds, euros and Thai baht depending on the country the card belongs to. If you are buying for a household rather than a single treat, the larger values tend to be the more practical choice. Tesco sits alongside other prepaid gift cards for everyday spending.

How to redeem a Tesco gift card

Tesco gift cards are redeemed online at tesco.com. Full terms and conditions are published on the Tesco website.

Go to tesco.com and open the store for the country your card belongs to.
Sign in to your Tesco account, or create one.
Add your items and continue to the checkout.
Find the gift card or voucher code field.
Enter the code exactly as supplied and apply it.
Check that the balance has been deducted, then pay any remaining amount by another method.

Regions and where the card works

Tesco gift cards are region locked. A card issued for one country applies to the Tesco store and currency of that country, so a sterling card belongs to the United Kingdom shop and a euro card to the Irish one. Buying the card for the country the recipient actually shops in is the only thing that matters here.

Check the currency in the product title before you order, and match it to the store the card will be used in rather than to where you happen to be.
