How to redeem an Xbox code
Codes are redeemed on the Microsoft account you sign in with, and the balance or membership is applied to that account straight away.
- Go to xbox.com and sign in to your account.
- Hover over your account link at the top right of the screen.
- Select "Redeem Code" from the menu that appears.
- Click "Redeem" on the next page.
- Enter your code.
- Click "Confirm", then confirm again to assign it to your account.
Regions and where Xbox cards work
Xbox prepaid cards and subscription codes are tied to the Microsoft Store of a particular country, and the currency on the card has to match the currency your account is set to. A card bought for one country will usually be refused on an account registered elsewhere, so choose the region that matches the country the recipient's account is set to rather than where they happen to be.
Global codes are the exception and are not bound to a single country's store. If you are unsure, check the country listed in the account's Microsoft settings before choosing.

Common questions
- Will an Xbox card from another country work on my account?
- Generally no. Region specific prepaid cards and subscription codes need a Microsoft account registered in the matching country with the same currency. Only codes listed as Global are not tied to one country's store.
- What happens to leftover balance?
- Credit stays on the Microsoft account balance until it is spent, so any remainder can go towards a later purchase. Balance cannot be transferred to a different account.
- How do I get the code after buying?
- The code is delivered to your order once payment completes, and you then redeem it on your Microsoft account.
- Can I use a prepaid card to pay for Game Pass?
- Account balance can be put towards purchases in the Microsoft Store, including subscriptions sold there for your region. Game Pass subscription codes add membership time directly instead.
- Do wallet codes and Game Pass codes work the same way?
