How to Activate a Microsoft Store Key

Microsoft Store keys can be redeemed for games, apps, Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft 365 subscriptions, and more. Here’s how to activate your key.

Before you start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • A Microsoft account
  • Your 25-character product key (formatted as XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)
  • An internet connection

Method 1: Via the Microsoft Store on Windows (Recommended)

  • Open the Microsoft Store app on your Windows PC.
  • Click your profile icon in the top-right corner and make sure you’re signed in.
  • Click the three-dot menu (⋯) or your profile icon again and select “Redeem a code”.
  • Enter your 25-character product key and click “Next”.
  • Confirm the redemption. The content will be added to your account.

Method 2: Via the Microsoft Website

  • Go to redeem.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  • Enter your 25-character product key.
  • Click “Next” and confirm. The content will be linked to your Microsoft account.

Tips

  • Microsoft Store keys work for Windows games, Xbox games, subscriptions, and apps — they share the same redemption system as Xbox keys.
  • Some keys may be region-locked. Make sure your Microsoft account region matches.
  • For subscription keys (Game Pass, Microsoft 365), the subscription period begins immediately upon redemption.
  • Each key can only be redeemed once.
  • If the key is for a game, it may also appear in your Xbox library if the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
