Can I use a Rakuten kobo gift card in another country?

Country specific cards are intended for the Kobo store and currency they were issued for, and may not apply to an account registered elsewhere. Global cards are not tied to one national store.

What happens to money left over after a purchase?

Any remaining balance is added to your Kobo account as store credit and applied to your next purchase, so nothing is lost when a book costs less than the card value.

How do I get the code?

The code is delivered to your order once payment completes, and you enter it in your Kobo account or at checkout.

Can the credit be used on audiobooks as well as ebooks?

Credit is held against your Kobo account and spent in the Kobo store, which covers ebooks and audiobooks. Availability of individual titles depends on your regional store.

Can I use more than one card on the same account?

Each code is redeemed separately, and the balances build up as store credit on the account for future purchases.

About Rakuten kobo gift cards

Rakuten kobo is a digital reading service built around ebooks and audiobooks, read on Kobo eReaders, phones and tablets through the Kobo apps. Credit from a gift card goes towards titles sold in the Kobo store, so it suits readers who buy regularly as well as anyone giving a present to someone with an eReader.

Face values run from small top-ups for a single book to larger amounts that cover a run of titles, in Canadian, Australian and New Zealand dollars, pounds and euros. If you are buying for a reader who also uses other services, it sits alongside the rest of the prepaid gift cards in the same way: a code, an account, a balance.

How to redeem a Rakuten kobo gift card

There are two ways to use the code: apply it while paying for a book, or add it to the account first so the credit is waiting.

Apply the gift card number to the Add gift card field during checkout.
Let any remaining balance be added to your account as store credit for your next purchase.
Alternatively, go to kobo.com.
Sign in to your Kobo account.
Go to kobo.com/egiftcards.
Click Redeem Kobo Card and enter the code.

Regions and which card to choose

Rakuten kobo gift cards are issued in a currency and tied to the matching country store, so a card bought for one country is meant for an account shopping in that country. Choose the version that matches where the reader's Kobo account is set up and the currency they are billed in.

Cards marked Global are the exception and are not limited to a single national store. When in doubt, match the card to the country the recipient reads and buys in rather than the country you are ordering from.

Regions currently listed for Rakuten kobo: Canada, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, France, United Kingdom, Europe, Global. Use the region filter beside the results to see the cards for one country.
