Changing your Steam password regularly is good security practice, and essential if you’ve purchased an account and need to secure it with your own credentials.
How to change your password
- Open the Steam desktop client and log into your account.
- Click Steam → Settings in the top-left menu.
- Select Account from the left sidebar.
- Click “Change password…”.
- A verification code will be sent to your email address. Check your inbox and enter the code.
- Enter your new password twice to confirm.
- Click “Change Password”. You’ll be logged out of all other sessions.
Tips
- Use a strong, unique password that you don’t reuse on other sites.
- After changing your password, you’ll need to log in again on all devices.
- If you don’t have access to the account email, change the email first (see our guide on changing your Steam email).
- We recommend enabling Steam Guard after changing your password for maximum security.
