Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your Epic Games account. Epic Games offers multiple 2FA methods.
How to enable 2FA
- Go to epicgames.com/account/password and sign in.
- Scroll down to the “Two-Factor Authentication” section.
- Choose your preferred method:
Option 1: Authenticator App (Recommended)
- Click “Enable Authenticator App”.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app to verify.
- Save the backup codes provided — store them somewhere safe.
Option 2: Email Authentication
- Click “Enable Email Authentication”.
- A code will be sent to your account email whenever you log in from a new device.
- This is the simplest option but less secure than an authenticator app.
Option 3: SMS Authentication
- Click “Enable SMS Authentication”.
- Enter your phone number and verify with the code sent via SMS.

- Epic Games sometimes offers free games or rewards for enabling 2FA.
- 2FA is required to send gifts in Fortnite.
- Always save your backup codes in a secure location.
- The authenticator app method is the most secure option.
