Steam Family Sharing lets you share your game library with up to 5 other accounts on up to 10 authorised devices. Here’s how to set it up.
How to enable Family Sharing
- Open Steam and go to Steam → Settings (or Preferences on Mac).
- Click on Family in the left sidebar.
- Under “Family Library Sharing”, check the box that says “Authorize Library Sharing on this computer”.
- You’ll see a list of other Steam accounts that have logged in on this device. Check the box next to each account you want to share your library with.
- The other user can now see and download your games from their own Steam library.
Important limitations
- Only one person can play from a shared library at a time. If the library owner starts playing, the borrower will be given a few minutes to save and quit.
- Not all games support Family Sharing. Games that require additional third-party keys or accounts may be excluded.
- VAC bans earned while playing shared games will apply to the borrower’s account, not the library owner’s.
- DLC and in-game purchases generally stay on the account that purchased them.
- You can authorise up to 10 devices and share with up to 5 accounts.
How to revoke sharing
- Go to Steam → Settings → Family.
- Under the list of authorised accounts, uncheck any user you no longer want to share with.
- You can also click “Manage other computers” to de-authorise devices remotely at store.steampowered.com/account/managedevices.
