About Shiro Games
Based in Bordeaux, Shiro Games makes and publishes games that mix strategy, simulation and role playing ideas at an independent scale. Northgard is its best known work, a real time strategy game about Norse clans claiming territory and surviving harsh winters, supported over time by a long line of playable clans. Wartales, represented here by The Skelmar Invasion expansion, takes the studio in a harder edged, party based direction.
The lighter side of the line up shows in Evoland and Evoland 2, which move through changing art styles and play styles as you progress. Farever, SpaceCraft and Block Factory round out a list that sits comfortably alongside other indie titles for PC.
Games in the Shiro Games catalogue
Northgard sits at the centre of the range and comes on Steam and GOG.com, as a key, as an Altergift or as an account. Around it are the clan expansions, including Brundr & Kaelinn, Clan of the Lynx, Gardariki, Clan of the Hippogriff, Nidhogg, Clan of the Dragon, Sváfnir, Clan of the Snake, Dodsvagr, Clan of the Rat, Garm, Clan of the Hounds and Hafgufa, Clan of the Turtle, all sold as Steam keys and each added to a copy of the base game.
Beyond the strategy side, Evoland and Evoland 2 cover adventure and role playing ground as Steam keys, Block Factory adds a building and simulation flavour, and Farever and SpaceCraft come as keys, Altergifts or accounts. Releases span 2015 to 2026.
How buying works
Almost everything in this range activates on Steam, with Northgard also available for GOG.com; check the platform on the individual listing before ordering. A key is redeemed on your own account, and the Steam key activation guide walks through the steps. An account comes with the game already on it, so you sign in and play rather than redeeming anything.
Games are sold per region, and a key has to match the region of the account it is activated on, so pick the version that suits the country your account is registered in. The notes on region locking explain how that works in practice.
Common questions
- Which platform do these games activate on?
- Most Shiro Games titles here activate on Steam. Northgard is also offered for GOG.com, so the store page for each listing states the platform.
- Will a key work in another country?
- Only if the region of the key matches the region of the account redeeming it. A key intended for one region may be rejected on an account registered elsewhere.
- What is the difference between a key and an account?
- A key is a code you redeem on your own Steam or GOG.com account, so the game stays in your library. An account arrives with the game already on it and you sign into it instead of redeeming a code.
- Do the Northgard clan expansions need the base game?
- Yes. Clan expansions such as Nidhogg, Clan of the Dragon or Hafgufa, Clan of the Turtle add content to Northgard and require the base game on the same account. The same applies to The Skelmar Invasion, which needs Wartales.
- When do I receive the key or account details?
- The key or account details are delivered to your order once payment completes.
