About Strategy First
Strategy First built its name publishing turn-based and real-time strategy for PC, alongside simulation, role-playing and action games from independent studios. The line-up brings together work from Stardock, whose Galactic Civilizations series is the best known name in the range, Muzzy Lane on the Making History games, Totem Games, Mechano Story Studio and Bugbear Entertainment, the studio behind the FlatOut racers.
The result is a varied list rather than a single house style: 4X empire building, historical wargaming, fantasy role-playing and destruction racing all sit side by side, with releases spanning 2006 to 2024.
Games in the catalogue
Galactic Civilizations III leads the space strategy side, with a Galactic Civilizations collection bringing several entries together. The Making History series covers twentieth century conflict across Making History II: The War of the World, Making History: The Great War and Making History: The First World War. Warrior Kings and Warrior Kings: Battles, Dragon Throne: Battle of Red Cliffs and Steel Fury cover medieval and historical battlefields, while Disciples II handles turn-based fantasy.
Beyond the strategy titles, the range takes in Ghost Master: Resurrection, the management sim Rails Across America, the tactical Shadow Vault and the FlatOut racers, including FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage. Several listings are bundles, expanded editions and add-on content, so it is worth checking whether a given item needs a base game. Everything in the range runs on Steam, and sits alongside other simulation and indie releases.
How buying works
Most titles come as Steam keys, redeemed in the Steam client or website to add the game to your own library; if you have not done this before, see the Steam key guide. Some items are sold as a Steam gift, and Steel Fury is offered as an account, which means you sign into a Steam account that comes with the game already on it instead of redeeming anything.
Keys are sold per region and must match the region of the Steam account they are activated on, so check the region of a listing against your own before buying and read how region locking works if you are unsure.
Common questions
- Which platform do these games activate on?
- All of the Strategy First titles listed are for Steam on PC. Keys are redeemed into a Steam account and the game then appears in that library.
- Will a key work in another country?
- Only if the region of the key matches the region of your Steam account. A key intended for one region may be rejected on an account registered elsewhere.
- What is the difference between a key and an account?
- A key is a code you redeem so the game joins your own library and stays there. An account comes with the game already on it, and you sign into that account to play.
- Do DLC and expansions need the base game?
- Yes. Add-on content and expansions for series such as Galactic Civilizations require the matching base game on the same Steam account. Bundles and collections include the base game.
- When do I receive the key or account details?
- The key or account details are delivered to your order once payment has completed.
