Xbox uses Microsoft’s two-step verification. Enabling it protects your Xbox, Microsoft Store, and all linked Microsoft services.
How to enable two-step verification
- Go to account.microsoft.com/security and sign in.
- Click “Advanced security options” (or “Security dashboard”).
- Under “Two-step verification”, click “Turn on”.
- Follow the setup wizard. You can choose:
Verification options
- Microsoft Authenticator app (recommended) — download from your app store, scan the QR code.
- Phone number — receive codes via SMS.
- Email — receive codes at an alternate email address.
- Security key — use a physical security device.
Tips
- The Microsoft Authenticator app is the most secure and convenient option.
- Save the recovery code provided during setup.
- This protects Xbox, Outlook, OneDrive, Windows, and all Microsoft services.
- You can manage your security info at any time from the security dashboard.
